Reformar is a Rimouski-based, non-profit organization lending support to marine science and technology projects since 1989. In doing so, they partner with government and private-owned organizations. Concretely, Reformar handles the full management of a fleet of science vessels and the complete planning of its scientific missions. The management is currently seeking to maintain a bank of applications for reliefs as Chief Engineer (2nd Class).
In summary, as Chief Engineer, you will be in charge of the Coriolis II’s engine room’s safe and efficient operation with Management’s and the Master’s support.
Under the supervision of the Master, you will…
- Supervise and provide technical assistance to personnel under your responsibility;
- Conduct repairs, cleaning and maintenance of the engine room and its equipment, in accordance with the organization’s procedures;
- Ensure that environmental, health and safety policies are followed;
- Ensure compliance of ISM manuals/procedures, ship certification, departmental records and maintenance records (SINEX);
- Prepare, plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of on-board equipment, as well as dry dock work;
- Manage the inventory and order the necessary parts while checking their compliance;
- Participate in annual budget planning and;
- Assist in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.
Requirements, skills and professional qualities sought:
- TRAINING/CERTIFICATES:
- Transport Canada STCW Certificate as a 2nd-class engineer
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate;
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MEDs) certificates;
- Valid Transport Canada Ship personnel with designated security duties certificate (an asset);
- MARITIME EXPERIENCE: We are looking for someone with experience as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer, who makes everyone’s safety their priority: a proactive, autonomous and polyvalent person.
- FRENCH: Bilingualism is an asset since most of our crew and clients are francophones.
- LEADERSHIP: We are seeking a person who can share their positivity with others and lead the team forward.
- PROBLEM SOLVING: This will be a daily challenge, staving off routine and making every day’s work an adventure! So, yes, it’s essential to be able to “take charge”.
