Reformar is a Rimouski-based, non-profit organization lending support to marine science and technology projects since 1989. In doing so, they partner with researchers, research and training institutions, along with government and private-owned organizations. Concretely, Reformar handles the full management of a fleet of science vessels and the complete planning of its scientific missions.

The management is looking to build a bank of applications for future opportunities as Able Seaman (Wheelsman). If you feel a pull toward the domain of scientific research, love being on the wheelhouse shift while also actively participating in deck operations, and have dynamism to share, this is a golden opportunity to show us what you’re made of!

As Able Seaman (Wheelsman), you will be in charge of monitoring the routes of the survey mission while taking part in operations on the Coriolis II’s deck. Fun and excitement is guaranteed!

Under the supervision of the Officer of the Watch or the Master, you…

  • Keep a watch shift on the bridge/wheelhouse;
  • Help keep the wheelhouse and other places tidy when needed;
  • Help moor and cast off the ship;
  • Participate in operations on the deck;
  • Take part in general maintenance of the ship, including steel and painting;
  • Help maintain the wire ropes, mooring lines, etc.;
  • Supervise the gangway;
  • Assist in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.

Requirements, skills and professional qualities sought:

  • TRAINING/CERTIFICATES:
    • Valid Transport Canada STCW Basic Safety Certificate (MED) obtained within the last 5 years;
    • Canadian Certificate – Persons with security responsabilities (PWSR);
    • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate;
    • Bridge Watch Rating;
  • MARINE EXPERIENCE: We are looking for someone with experience as an Able Seaman (Wheelsman), who has everyone’s safety as a priority in addition to being proactive, autonomous and versatile!
  • FRENCH: Bilingualism is an asset since most of
    our crew and clients are francophones.
  • LEADERSHIP: We are looking for someone who has positive energy and leads their colleagues into this movement.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: This will be the person’s daily life and this is what will make his work non-routine and exciting! So, yes, a capacity to take charge is essential.

We are currently looking to build a bank of applications for candidates wishing to work as Food service and cleaning attendant (Steward/2nd Cook) aboard the R/V Coriolis II. If you’re attracted to the field of scientific research, love cooking, and have a knack for tidiness, we have something that should make you happy!

Briefly, as Food service and cleaning attendant, you will take part in creating varied menus; keep the kitchen, shared areas, and the cabins clean and tidy; and will offer our guests an unmatched experience. With the help of the Chief Cook, you will be in part responsible for the happiness of the crewmembers and of the clients by offering them great quality meals in a safe and clean environment. Under the supervision of the Chief Cook, you…

  • Rigorously clean the kitchen, dining room, and clients’ cabins;
  • Show creativity in the kitchen while also being able to prepare classic breakfast recipes;
  • Prepare snacks and desserts so clients and crewmembers stay in shape all day long;
  • Make sure to serve well-presented, quality food;
  • Help prepare lunches and dinners;
  • Act according to the hygiene and the work health and safety regulations, and ensure that they are enforced;
  • All other related tasks required for the benefit of the organisation.

Requirements, skills and professional qualities sought:

  • TRAINING/CERTIFICATES:
    • Cooking formation and/or relevant experience;
    • Hygiene certificate from MAPAQ (an asset);
    • Valid Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certificates (obtained within the last 5 years) (an asset);
    • Valid Transport Canada Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties certificate;
    • Valid Transport Canada Medical certificate;
  • MARITIME EXPERIENCE: You might not have maritime experience, but you are experienced in hospitality and housekeeping? You are looking for new ventures on a ship? We want to know you!
  • FRENCH: Bilingualism is an asset since most of our crew and our clients are francophones.
  • ATTITUDE: We are looking for someone who has positive energy and leads their colleagues in this movement; someone self-driven and reliable.
  • ENDURANCE: As in all kitchens, you must be able to work standing for many hours.

The management is currently looking for a Watchkeeping Engineer (4th Class) scheduled to start in February 2024. If you feel a pull toward the domain of scientific research, have a passion for marine engineering, and love working in a team, we have the job for you!

As Watchkeeping Engineer (4th Class), you will be in charge of the Coriolis II’s engine room’s safe and efficient operation. You will do so with the support of the Chief Engineer. Fun and challenges are guaranteed!

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will…

  • Supervise and lend technical assistance to the personnel under your responsibility (oiler, or engine room cadet).
  • Conduct repairs, maintenance and cleaning of the engine room and its equipment, in accordance with company procedures and the Chief Engineer’s instructions.
  • Ensure that environmental, health and safety policies are followed.
  • Maintain the vessel’s equipment and track progress within the preventive maintenance system (SINEX).
  • Ensure the safe, efficient and on-time operation of the propulsion and auxiliary systems of the engine room.
  • Become familiar with all engine room procedures, along with the working prerequisites of all mechanical and electrical machines, such as valves and pumps.
  • Assist in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.

Requirements, skills and professional qualities sought:

  • TRAINING/CERTIFICATES:
    • Valid Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MEDs) certificates (obtained in the last 5 years).
    • Valid Transport Canada Ship personnel with designated security duties certificate.
    • Valid Transport Canada STCW certificate as a 4th-class engineer.
    • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate.
  • MARITIME EXPERIENCE: We are looking for an experienced marine engineer who makes everyone’s safety their priority: someone autonomous and versatile!
  • FRENCH: Bilingualism is an asset since most of our crew and clients are francophones.
  • LEADERSHIP: We are seeking a person who can share their positivity with others and lead the team forward.
